World Nature Photography Awards 2024: Gold and Grand Prize Winner Tracey Lund Captures Stunning Image of Underwater Gannets
The World Nature Photography Awards have once again showcased the incredible beauty and diversity of nature through the lens of talented photographers from around the world. This year’s grand prize winner, Tracey Lund from the UK, captured a breathtaking image of two gannets diving for their meal underwater off the coast of Shetland. The image not only won gold in the Behaviour – Birds category but also earned Lund the prestigious title of World Nature Photographer of the Year 2024.
Lund’s story of capturing the moment is truly remarkable, as she describes the spectacle of thousands of gannets diving into the sea after locally caught fish. Despite taking 1800 images that day, she only had two that she could use, showcasing the patience and skill required to capture such a stunning shot.
But Lund is not the only talented photographer recognized in this year’s awards. From traditional stilt fishermen in Sri Lanka to a black frogfish in Australia, the category winners have captured the beauty and diversity of wildlife and nature in their own unique ways.
The images range from the graceful moment of a leopard approaching a pond in Kenya to the playful sea lion pup interacting with human garbage in Baja California, highlighting both the beauty and challenges facing our natural world.
The World Nature Photography Awards celebrate not only the artistry of photography but also the importance of conservation and environmental awareness. As co-founder Adrian Dinsdale notes, the caliber of entries into the awards never fails to take our breath away.
