Leica Announces Inauguration of Flagship Store and Gallery in New York City’s Meatpacking District

Leica, the esteemed German camera brand, has made a grand entrance into the vibrant Meatpacking District of New York City with the inauguration of its first immersive flagship store and gallery at 406 West 13th St. This new establishment is not just a store, but a haven for photography enthusiasts, offering a unique space for visual storytellers to explore and find inspiration.

The flagship store and gallery, spanning over 3,000 square feet across two floors, is strategically located just steps away from the Highline and The Whitney Museum of American Art. It aims to cater to a diverse clientele, from seasoned professionals to avid photography enthusiasts, by offering a comprehensive range of Leica products including cameras, lenses, and accessories.

The ground floor of the store features the Leica boutique, showcasing the complete lineup of products, as well as the Leica Gallery NYC where visitors can immerse themselves in captivating exhibitions. Ascending to the top floor, guests will find a Leica Library curated by acclaimed photographer Todd Hido, a photo studio for creatives to experiment with cutting-edge technology, and an outdoor rooftop for engaging in conversation and fostering collaboration.

Dr. Andreas Kaufmann, Chairman of Leica’s Supervisory Board, expressed his excitement about the new flagship store, stating that it will open up the world of Leica to the public and provide opportunities to engage with up-and-coming talent and renowned photographers. CEO Matthias Harsch added that the new location in the Meatpacking District will provide photographers with a space to explore, connect, and find inspiration.

The grand opening of Leica’s flagship store and gallery is scheduled for Thursday, March 14, 2024, and will include a ceremonial ribbon cutting, a reception, and an exhibition showcasing Leica’s newest offerings. The weekend following the grand opening will be filled with immersive experiences accessible to the public, including panel discussions, talks, book signings, and photowalks guided by photography experts.
